Muscle and stomach confusion! Let me explain. Many plateaus in progress are associated with your body adjusting to the workouts, nutrition or both. This is common and quite frustrating, to be honest. I have been there. It is particularly frustrating when the workout and nutrition strategies that have produced significant results in the past no longer work. This concept is the genesis of the P90X program and nutrition approach, for example.
Muscle confusion is provided by changing the workout focus monthly to keep your body from adjusting to the workouts or hitting a plateau in progress and performance. Hybrid schedules accomplish the same objective. From a nutrition perspective, P90X also cycles the food menu throughout the program including ratios of macronutrients to maintain “stomach confusion”, if there is such a phrase. Zig-zagging calories is another nutrition concept that has been successful for many people, again, with the strategy being to avoid a plateau in progress. These are just a few examples.
