Good question, and thank you for asking! I get this question all of the time given my successful results with P90X as well as other Beachbody® workout programs and supplements. As discussed on the HOME PAGE of this website – – getting ripped requires CONSISTENT focus on fitness AND nutrition. Starting a disciplined fitness program like P90X or INSANITY is no excuse to eat or drink anything that you want… at a minimum, poor nutrition may keep you from getting the best results possible with your fitness and health initiative. Besides adhering to a structured workout schedule with focused nutrition, other critical factors include adequate rest, hydration, supplementation, motivation AND “smart” goals (see blog post on “Importance of Goals” below). These components (and others) help provide a strong foundation for success in your achievement and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle.

From my perspective, engaging in a quality, structured workout program is very important for getting ripped (or accomplishing YOUR specific individual goals). Personally, I also look for challenging programs that are based on training techniques that I find most interesting and motivate me to push beyond my typical limits. Mix of resistance with cardio impact are recommended. I found these challenges with P90X, INSANITY and RevAbs programs from Beachbody®, among others. In fact, my favorite schedule to date is a hybrid I developed of the three programs that combines the best of resistance (P90X), interval cardio (INSANITY) and focused abs (RevAbs). Muscle confusion, or intentionally varying exercises or execution, is a proven strategy for breaking through plateaus that most people encounter during their wellness program. This is the genesis of P90X and hybrid combinations. I also support the theories of “muscle burns fat” and “high intensity interval training (HIIT)”, where resistance workouts and elevated heart rate for targeted periods, respectively, enhance metabolism and calorie burn for sustained performance. The HIIT technique is the basis of INSANITY.

How Do I Get Ripped?

Nutrition and supplementation are the primary fuel sources that allow you to get the most out of your program. Nutrition targets are specifically related to your goals, and I highly recommend that you work with a FREE Team Beachbody Coach to get dialed in for maximum performance. Many believe that proper nutrition impacts up to 60 – 80% of your results. Tracking total daily calories, ratios of the macronutrients carbohydrates-fat-protein, sodium intake, sugar levels and nutrient timing are just a few of the simple, yet complex variables to consider. Your age, height, weight, genetics and goals are all drivers here. Pre- and post-workout nutrition are critical. Strategic supplementation facilitates maximum performance for workouts and muscle recovery – growth efficacy. This includes whey protein, multivitamin, Omega-3s (fish oil), P90X Recovery Formula, Men’s Muscle & Strength Formula (creatine) and Shakeology. Water hydration is critical for maintaining body function and getting the most out of your workouts. Finally, adequate rest is also required to promote muscle growth (anabolism) relative to muscle loss (catabolism). I recommend 7 – 9 hours each day.
