Having a Plan

WOW – The past 5 weeks have been extremely busy for our family and some of the most stressful weeks that I have personally had in a long time.  This includes selling our home (in 3 days!), buying a new home, packing for the move, working two jobs, getting in my workouts and family time each day in addition to trips to Disney World, Chicago and Germany. Wow. And you can imagine that even going to Disney with a 2 ½-year old son and 5-month old daughter has its own unique challenges. None of this would have been possible without having a plan.

I have found in the past that not having a plan limits your ability to focus and prioritize tasks, which leads to inefficient time management and issues achieving your goals. I personally use a specific strategy of setting my weekly schedule to dial in my time management and stay disciplined in the execution of tasks. For most people, it is natural to sacrifice your fitness and nutrition when busy, however, I believe that it is even more critical to stay focused on your own condition during these times to make sure that you have the health and energy required to stay on track. So, work fitness and nutrition into your plan!

Of course you will need to make the plan work for YOU. For me, I typically get up at 4AM so that I can get in my workouts and some business before the insanity of the day begins. This works for me, and may not work for you. But, the point is to figure out what you absolutely need to do each day and then develop a schedule to keep you focused on execution. You may have to make sacrifices, but that is the basis of decisions in life. It’s simple… have a plan.
